In August the lab popped up on the corner of Houston and Second Ave (and will travel to eight more cities after NYC) to provide a community center and gathering space that also serves as an urban think tank. The researchers behind the concept are hoping you will help brainstorm an answer. Are you up for the challenge?
Play Urbanology, an interactive game in the lab space or online, for mind-opening queries into matters of growth and sustainability. Testing, Testing is a fascinating psych study that measures the effects of the city on your brain and body while you tour the neighborhood. The sessions are Thursdays at 2pm, and, like most awesome things in New York, there’s only a handful of spots and a wait list. Still it never hurts to try…
While you’re waiting for lady luck to kick in, grab a locally grown, organic lunch on the lab’s lot at Roberta’s pop-up cafe. (Visit their proper restaurant in Brooklyn for a look at their urban garden and a taste of their outstanding pizza.)
Check the lab’s site for a complete calendar of their offerings happening now through October 16th. The overarching theme is “Confronting Comfort—exploring notions of individual and collective comfort and the urgent need for environmental and social responsibility.” So, you know, if you can't make it out and would like to explore the lab from the comfort of your own home/office, there's plenty to do and see on the Internet.
